How to Choose a Copper Peptide Serum: Six Things That Decide It

Copper peptide serums range from about fifteen dollars to well over a hundred and fifty, and price tells you almost nothing about which ones work.
Six specifications do. Most brands publish none of them, which is itself the most useful signal in the category.
1. Disclosed concentration
The one that matters most.
"Copper tripeptide-1" appearing in an ingredient list tells you the molecule is present. It tells you nothing about how much, and in a signaling molecule the amount is the entire product.
Roughly: 0.5% is an entry point suitable for sensitive skin. 1% is the saturation threshold where the signal registers reliably. Above 2% you are into territory where cycling stops being advisable and starts being mandatory.
What to demand: a number on the label or the product page. If a brand will not name one, the working assumption is that naming it would hurt sales. There is no other reason to withhold a spec that is a selling point when it is good.
2. Formulation pH
The one nobody checks, and it silently decides whether the product survives its own shelf life.
GHK-Cu holds its copper in a band around pH 6.0. Formulate outside it and the complex dissociates in the bottle, before it ever reaches your face. A brand that publishes its pH is telling you it thought about stability. A brand that does not may simply never have measured.
What to demand: pH stated, and near 6.0.
3. The base
This is where most of the category quietly fails.
Heavy silicone bases feel expensive and create a film a water-thin active cannot get through. It is also why copper peptides have a reputation for pilling under sunscreen, which is a carrier failure being blamed on a peptide.
What to demand: aqueous, silicone free. It should absorb on contact and leave nothing behind. If it feels rich, that richness is displacing active.
4. Packaging
Copper peptide systems degrade under light. This is not a design preference, it is photochemistry.
What to demand: opaque or amber glass. A clear bottle on a clear shelf means the product is degrading while you look at it. Plastic is a secondary concern but glass is the better answer.
5. The applicator, if it is for scalp
Skipped by nearly everyone and it decides the entire outcome.
A dropper meant for a face lands on hair, not scalp. If the active never reaches the surface, the concentration on the label is irrelevant.
What to demand: a targeted spray for scalp use. For face, a dropper is fine.
6. Cost per cycle, not cost per bottle
The number that actually compares products.
Work out what one thirty day saturation block costs at protocol dose. A cheap bottle at 0.1% undisclosed concentration is not cheap, it is a donation. An expensive bottle you use twice a week because you are rationing it is not a protocol, it is a decoration.
How to calculate: 30ml at four to five drops twice daily covers roughly one thirty day block for the face. Divide the price by that. Then compare against a competitor at the same actual active dose, not the same bottle size.
The scoring sheet
Before you buy anything, answer these six:
- What percentage GHK-Cu, stated by the brand?
- What formulation pH?
- Aqueous or silicone base?
- Light-protective packaging?
- Right applicator for the surface?
- What does one full cycle cost?
If you cannot answer four of six from the product page, that is your answer. A brand confident in its formulation publishes its formulation.
